Why work with BGCI to save trees?

  • We work with partners in country to develop a species recovery plan and a five year project plan, including community involvement and benefits
  • We ensure accurate baseline information is in place to guide species recovery and to monitor project progress, including socio-economic measures where relevant
  • We assess capacity gaps and what kind of training is required
  • We provide bespoke training (face to face or online) to partners from BGCI and our network
  • We provide a wide range of technical guidance resources
  • Where necessary, we match the project leader to a mentor from elsewhere in the BGCI network to provide technical support for project implementation
  • We provide project templates to help with project implementation, monitoring and adaptive management
  • We provide guidance throughout the project cycle through regular contact with a BGCI project manager
  • We provide support to implementing institutions on community engagement
  • We provide regular updates to the funder
  • We stream project news and stories on our website and social media
  • We promote funder’s support to BGCI’s Tree Conservation Fund through our website, social media and traditional media
  • We design a monitoring plan for the project, and provide templates for species monitoring and adaptive management
  • We provide training on monitoring and evaluation as needed
  • We ensure that project impacts are monitored and reported to the funder
  • We ensure that the impacts of the project on the species are reported on BGCI’s global tree conservation tracking tool
  • We ensure that project impact is recognised as part of a country’s contribution to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, SDGs, and other relevant frameworks
  • We ensure that partners are integrated in to BGCI’s regional and technical networks
  • We support development of the partner so they can expand their conservation role in the future, e.g. through BGCI’s Advanced Conservation Practitioner Accreditation Scheme
  • We build awareness of the conservation role of the institution with national government, if needed
